Who We Are

Sidewalk Stories is an outreach to inner-city neighborhoods where children may not have access to books or someone to sit down to read to them.

Sidewalk Stories teams work once a week throughout the summer in a chosen neighborhood taking books to, and reading them with the children in that neighborhood.

Sidewalk Stories gets the books through donations of good condition used books, new books, or money for the teams to buy books. Then the teams put the books in a wagon and walk through the neighborhood, reading to the children who are outside of their houses playing. After they have read to the children, the kids may each select one book out of the wagon to keep! At the same time Sidewalk Stories teams make contact with the adults in the neighborhood and try to bring them friendship and encouragement. The teams will also provide books to the adults that we think may be helpful to them.

Sidewalk Stories always tries to work alongside local churches and other groups that minister to these neighborhoods. People who the teams come in contact with that desire physical and spiritual help can then be directed to these local churches and organizations.

Sidewalk Stories is a fun, non-threatening way to take God's love to the streets and to make a difference in your world!
